About Boise State University and Scholarship
In Boise, Idaho, there is a public research institution known as Boise State University (BSU). The Episcopal Church founded the university in 1932, and it became an autonomous junior college in 1934. In 1965, it started awarding bachelor’s and master’s degrees. It received the designation of a public institution in 1969.
The MBA and MAcc programs in the College of Business and Economics; master’s and Ph.D. programs in the Colleges of Engineering, Arts & Sciences, and Education; the MPA program in the School of Public Service; and the MPH program in the College of Health Sciences are just a few of the more than 100 graduate programs offered at Boise State. According to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, it is classified as a “R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity” institution. The university’s college athletic teams, referred to as the Broncos, compete in the Mountain West Conference (MWC), an NCAA Division I conference.
After Idaho State University (1963) and the University of Idaho (1889), the institution became the third state university in Idaho 49 years ago, in 1974. Boise State is a Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities-accredited institution that grants associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees. Over 75,000 former students are still alive as of 2010. Approximately 66 percent of the 24,103 students enrolled at Boise State for the 2020–21 academic year were from Idaho. The majority of graduate students in Idaho attend Boise State University. The majority of first-year students at Boise State are recent high school graduates (more than 90%).
The Western Writers Series, a collection of monographs by writers from the American West and American Frontier, has been published by the university since 1971. Through the Albertsons Library, the university also has an online library of books and other materials about Idaho history.
For new or transfer international first-year students, the Summit Scholarship waives the nonresident component of tuition.
