About the University of Mannheim and Scholarship

German public research University of Mannheim, also known as UMA, is located in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg. In addition to the Handelshochschule (Commercial College Mannheim), which was formed in 1907, the university, which was founded in 1967, has its roots in the Palatine Academy of Sciences, which was founded by Elector Carl Theodor at Mannheim Palace in 1763. The university consistently ranks as Germany’s top business school and a top institution for the study of economics and social sciences.

Business administration, economics, law, social sciences, humanities, mathematics, computer science, and information systems are among the graduate, doctorate, and undergraduate programs offered by the institution. The main campus of the university is housed in the Mannheim Palace, and both campuses are in the heart of the city.

The university had 11,640 full-time students, 1600 academic staff, including 194 professors, and a revenue of over €121 million for the academic year 2020–2021. It is divided into two graduate colleges and five schools. There is no known founding date for the University of Mannheim. Its founding dates back to 1763, when Elector Carl Theodor created one of its precursor institutions, the Kurpfälzische Akademie der Wissenschaften (Palatine Academy of Sciences), in Mannheim Palace. The Municipal Commercial College Mannheim (1907–1933), which was reopened as the State College for Economics Mannheim in 1946 and changed its name to the University of Mannheim in 1967, is another antecedent.

In the fields of business administration, economics, law, social sciences, humanities, mathematics, computer science, and information systems, the UMA provides undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral studies. Many of the academic programs mix business studies and economics with non-economic courses including literature and cultural studies, law, mathematics, and informatics. The academic year is divided between a fall and a spring term, and as of 2016, Mannheim was the only German institution to use this schedule.

The Opportunity Mannheim Scholarship is open to international students who are interested in studying abroad in another nation and who meet the eligibility requirements.
