About Flinders University and Scholarship
Flinders University is a public research university centered in Adelaide, South Australia, having a presence in 11 locations across South Australia and the Northern Territory. It was named after British sailor Matthew Flinders, who explored and mapped the Australian and South Australian coastlines in the early nineteenth century. It was founded in 1966.
Its 156 acres of native bushland and gardens make Bedford Park, in Adelaide’s south, where Flinders University’s main campus is located, a green institution. Other campuses include those at Tonsley, Darwin, Alice Springs, Renmark, and the central business district of Adelaide. The Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group includes it as a member. In terms of postgraduate employment outcomes, Flinders University leads the country, according to the 2021 Graduate Outcome Survey – Longitudinal, which was released by the Australian Government’s Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching.
The university’s main campus is located in Bedford Park, an Adelaide suburb in the inner southern part of the city, 12 kilometers south of the city center. The university is also located in the heart of the city near Tonsley and Victoria Square. It also maintains several off-campus teaching venues in the Northern Territory, southwest Victoria, and outback South Australia. Foreigners made up 19.5% of the student body on campus by 2020, and certain courses were also provided online, notably in the Asia-Pacific area.
According to the rankings published by Times Higher Education in 2022, Flinders University is ranked 266th out of 300 universities worldwide. Flinders University offers more than 160 undergraduate and graduate programs in addition to higher-level research supervision across all disciplines. Many courses make use of modern information and communication technology to enhance face-to-face instruction and give flexible possibilities.
The award was designed to give financial aid to a student from a rural or regional location who is beginning the Bachelor of Science (Palaeontology). One scholarship will be given each year, subject to funding. In 2018, the student-run Flinders University Palaeontology Society raised funds to establish the Flinders University Palaeontology Scholarship to commemorate the 30th anniversary of paleontology at Flinders University.
