Since 2000, the Burger King Scholarship program has awarded almost $55 million in scholarships to over 45,000 high school students, BK® employees, and their families across North America in honor of co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore. The Foundation gave approximately 4,000 students scholarships totalling over $4.6 million in 2022 alone.

Burger King co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore is honored via the Burger King Scholars program, which grants high school students, BK employees, and their families scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $50,000.

Scholarships are meant to assist with the cost of attending a post-secondary vocational or technical institution or college. The grade point average (GPA), work history, extracurricular involvement, and community service are used to choose the recipients.

This post details the Burger King scholarship, how to apply, requirements, deadlines and other important points to note about the scholarship.

About the Burger King Scholarship Program 

BURGER KING is a non-profit charitable organization founded in October 2005 as the system’s charitable arm. The BURGER KING Scholars program helps high school seniors in the US, PR, and Canada and employees’ spouses or domestic partners, children, and other family members to pursue higher education. 

More than 46,000 students have received scholarships totalling more than $53 million from the program. Last year, scholarships totalling $4.3 million were given to almost 4,000 worthy students.

Scholarship America is in charge of running this scholarship program. No consideration is given to factors such as national origin, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, race, colour, creed, or religion when awarding awards.

Eligibility Requirements

The applicant must be a resident of Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the United States.

Must be a senior in high school in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, or Canada; or a graduate of grade 12 in Canada; or a graduate of homeschooling in any of those countries.

The applicant requires a CGPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.

Required Documents

The following files must be uploaded according to the application:

  • A history of your employment and involvement in community and educational initiatives.
  • An official or unofficial, current transcript of your grades (Online unofficial or official transcripts must include your name, your school name, your grade, the number of credit hours you completed in each class, and the time frame the course was taught.) 
  • If you would like your application to be linked to an employee, a BURGER KING(r) employee details Include your family’s financial information. A copy of their most current tax return that they submitted to Revenue Canada or the IRS. It is helpful to consult Revenue Canada and IRS when completing that application section.
  • After uploading all the necessary data, send in your application. After that, you will receive a message from Scholarship America(r) confirming that your application has been received.
  • There is nothing else! You’ve likely heard from previous applicants that completing the application took 20 minutes if you watched the video we previously showed.

How to Apply for Burger King Scholarship 2024/2025 Application

If you fit the requirements and have all the necessary paperwork, applying for the Burger King Scholarship is simple.

You must create an account in order to use an official application because the Burger King Scholarship Program is managed directly by Scholarship America(r) and Scholarship America. You can start completing applications in English, Spanish, or French after your account has been set up.

The following files must be uploaded, according to the application:

Dateline For The Burger King Scholarship 2024/2025 Application

  • October 15 is the start date for Burger King scholarship applications.
  • November 31: This year’s Burger King scholarship application deadline is closed.
  • May 1: Scholarship America(r) will request more information and announce the Burger King scholarship recipients.
  • August 31: Scholarship payments from Burger King will be mailed to the winners. The awardees must mail the scholarship check to their institution or university as soon as possible and notify them of their achievement.
  • One more thing!
  • Although December 31 is the deadline, we advise you to submit your application sooner. How come? Because the application will only open if 50,000 applications are received by December 31.

Advice to Raise Your Chances of Getting a Scholarship from Burger King

To be eligible for these Burger King scholarships, you must submit an application that distinguishes you from the other hopefuls. Here are some tactics to increase your chances of winning as a result!

  1. Assemble Your Applications in Advance

The Burger King Awards application procedure does not require letters of recommendation or essays. However, it is crucial to be ready by getting the application materials ready well in advance of submitting your application. How come? The proverb says, “The early bird gets the best first bite! If you are among the first fifty thousand applicants, you can win the Burger King scholarship. Try to be one of the first people to apply!

  1. Obtain High Test Scores and a Strong Academic Record

Based primarily on your academic record, Scholarship America(r) will determine whether or not to award you the Burger King scholarship. The eligibility rules state that an applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale to qualify for the General Track and Employee-Based Track. To be eligible for the $100,000 James W. McLamore WHOPPER(r) Scholarship, you must have an ACT average of 25, a SAT average of 1220, or an average of 3.3. Remember to study hard for all of your exams and classes!

  1. Engage in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and community service.

The second factor in determining the caliber of your involvement in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and work experience is Scholarship America(r). The best candidates have participated in three or more of them. Thus, throughout high school, you  

participated in these events often. It will help with more than just your Burger King scholarship application. Work experience, extracurricular activities, and community service can help with scholarship essays, personal statements, and college application forms!
