About the University of Newcastle and Scholarship

Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia is home to the University of Newcastle, a public institution. Its main campus is located in the Callaghan neighborhood of Newcastle, where it was founded in 1965. Additionally, the institution has campuses in Singapore, Newcastle City, and Sydney’s central business district.

In the past, the University of Newcastle Medical School used a problem-based learning approach for its undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine curriculum. The Australian Medical Council later made the usage of this approach mandatory throughout Australia. Early in the 1990s, it helped to establish the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT). As an extra selection criterion, UMAT is now widely approved by several medical schools in Australia. The Africa Excellence Scholarship 2023 is now taking applications from interested and qualified students at the University of Newcastle. African students with excellent academic records who desire to enroll in a degree program at the University for the academic year 2023–2024 may apply for this scholarship.

To attract top-performing overseas students to the University of Newcastle, the Africa Excellence Scholarship was founded. It is a merit-based scholarship that rewards candidates with good academic credentials and encourages them to keep pushing themselves to become the greatest version of themselves. Academic excellence serves as the foundation for awarding the scholarships. For the year 2023, there are about 100 slots available. All decisions about academic merit are made following the University’s processes for calculating ATAR and GPA.

Students who do not get a scholarship offer are not eligible for the award. Also ineligible are internal transfer students who are enrolled at an Australian or online campus and have never received the scholarship. Students enrolled in quota-limited programs are not eligible for this award (for a list of quota-limited programs that are not eligible, please see the complete Terms and Conditions).
